Match Report | As the match entered the final minutes, a defeat became more than just a possibility, as thoughts of the previous encounter began to cross every ones mind. The Constabulary only had three chances at St Johns but converted two of them to take all the points despite being bombarded for much of the match. The Constabulary keeper continued his good form, tipping over an Eddie Appleton long shot after only 5 minutes, and when Michael Reeve was through on goal it took a timely block by a defender to keep his shot out. The Referee waved on play, when Michael Reeve was brought down in the penalty area and uncharacteristically on 35 minutes Matt Bowles blasted the ball high over the bar when a chance fell his way. The second half opened with Scott James bursting forward but his shot went wide of the post, and Joe Moran could only hit the keeper when he was through on goal. Further chances continued to be spurned. The fact that the Constabulary could only manage two shots at goal shows the Nomads superiority, but their defence stood firm for much of the game despite the number of chances being created. Only one team will be happy with just one point but with Rothley losing, the Nomads stay top. Robert Morrell | |
