Season 2000-01
Match Report | In an amazing quirk of fate thrown up by the fixture list, Polska's very next game is against the team who beat them 7 days earlier. This time, though, it is played on AKs tiny subutteo pitch, and with Polska's long throw machine John Garden back in the side, it doesn't take long for Polska to put things right. With Mark Whait forced to referee the game, he is surrounded by AK players baying for his blood after new Polska keeper Andy Brown comes racing out his goal on 5 minutes and takes out the advancing AK forward. Whait judges that Brown was not last man, and AK hit the bar from the resulting free kick, Brown later admitting that he wouldn't have complained if he had been sent off. The game then turns into the John Garden show, as long throw after long throw is converted into goals, and Polska find themselves 5-0 up on 37 minutes, before AK pull one back. With a comfortable win in the bag, the second half is a lot slower. On 58 minutes, Tom Lane's marker tries to swap shirts with him, and Tom loses his cool. Aiming a kick at his opponent, the 'crack' is heard all around the park, and Whait has no option but to escort his man off the pitch, promising to send in the red card to the County FA. The extra man advantage has no bearing on the game though, Polska scoring another 3 goals (2 from penalties) before Orlando Harper is injured in a foul and swears he will sue everyone from the match referee, the Sunday League chairman, God and LPFC before the year is out. | |
