Season 2000-01

A classic win for the reds in an ill tempered match littered with common assaults and GBH. When we say ill tempered - guess who arrived with the ill tempers? The game starts like this - 'Pool go 1-0 up within 5 minutes, and to some observers it seems like Chris Lewis in goal suffers a repeat of his 'Manchester' nightmare 3 years earlier. Then the great Oswin / Throop partnership clicks into gear. Throop equalises from a free kick, and despite that making the scores 1-1, the Pool lads heads seem to drop! In the end, Polska go 3-1 up at half time, but not until Mean Scott Burt has had a staring out contest with our very own Adam Cornish. Burt is as full of the joys of winter as ever, scowling, mouthing and constantly offside, with no work rate whatsoever. In the secod half, Pool get back to 3-2, until Oswin scores on 73 minutes to make it 4-2. But Polska make the mistake of stepping off the gas, and when Burt makes it 4-3 on 77 minutes, and then Pool equalise on 80 minutes all hell breaks loose. Firstly, Shepherd of Newfoundpool - apparently a distant relative of Polskas own Adam Shepherd - decks Geoff Trill with a well timed headbut. Paul Eames comes running on to the pitch but decides against it when Shepherd turns to face him, sensing a huge laundry bill for his underwear. Referee Nigel Imison loses the plot, refusing to send off Shepherd when told by the Polska linesman about the incident, but, oh yes, Polska go on to win the game 5-4 when some 'Pool muppet puts through his own net on 87 minutes.
