Season 2008-09
Match Report | LEICESTER POLSKA may consider themselves a shade unfortunate not to get the point they deserved against a useful Anstey Swifts side. Still missing key players for the third successive game of the season, Polska started well when Dave Ilnicki finished off an Adam Dyke effort after just 5 minutes. But Makke Adams then eventually capitalised on a Rich Ellis error just four minutes later. Polska debutant Martin Smart then headed home unmarked to give the visitors the lead on 21 minutes, before ex-Polska striker Darren Wheeler placed a pinpoint header past the stricken Chris Lewis on 30 minutes. Luke Dyke then had to be taken off just a minute later, after failing to recover from an earlier thunderous challenge, and was replaced by another debutant, Kritesh Patel. Wheeler then got his second on 40 minutes, drilling home a powerful free kick, to give Anstey the half time advantage, but not before Polska had had a handful of efforts cleared off the line. Anstey probably had more of the attacking play in the second half, but Polska always looked capable of levelling on the break, although they had to defend stoutly to keep the goals out at the other end. Catastrophe was to follow, however, when Chris Lewis was given a straight red card on 72 minutes after handling the ball outside his area. Adam Dyke missed a couple of second half chances - one inches over the bar, the other inches wide, which summed up Polska's bad luck in front of goal. Makke Adams then secured the points, beating stand in keeper Tom Lane in injury time.
