DESPITE racing into a 9th minute 2-0 lead, Leicester Polska couldn't see out the game and win, but the 3-3 draw with Fosse City was enough to give them the point to guarantee 4th place. Starting at left back, skipper Alan Chater tried his luck with a long range effort after 8 minutes that rifled into the Fosse net to put Polska 1-0 up. Lukasz Tabaka then finished off a good move just a minute later to make it 2-0 and shell shock Fosse. Fosse then started to find their way into the game after 20 minutes, and began their good passing and movement game. It paid off when Nathan Williams produced a classy finish on 22 minutes to make it 2-1, which was the half time score. In the second half, both sides went toe to toe and Williams struck again after Dziopa lost the ball on the edge of the Fosse box, and Spider Pajak instinctively tried to poke the ball away after Andrzej had saved the initial Fosse breakaway. Williams made no mistake on 72 minutes to make it 2-2. They say the best time to score is when your opponents just have, and Groszewski put the finishing touch onto a slick Polska move from the centre to make it 3-2. Fosse were then awarded a penalty when David Wasik needlessly committed a foul with the ball seemingly going away from goal. Ryan Bayliss made no mistake from the spot on 77 minutes for 3-3. Polska had a fair few chances to score more - Radek hit the bar, and Mark Chater's last gasp header in the dying moments of the game didn't quite do enough. 4th place is a pleasing finish for the season, and Polska also went the 2nd half of the season unbeaten in 2012 at Knighton Park, a run of 5 games. There run of 3 successive games against the sides around them showed plenty of spirit, and we haven't really looked back since the horrible Wigston United away defeat. We now need to regroup in the summer and learn how to win games instead of drawing them, and losing leads which we also did against Guthlaxton. Good season though, and let's see what the summer and next year brings. PLAYER RATINGS: ANDRZEJ: Made some good saves again and in good form. No chance for the goals. WYSOCZANSKI: Replaced at half time after Fosse targeted him by switching wingers in the first half and put him under a lot pf pressure down the flank. GROSZEWSKI: Another good game for the midfielder, and another good goal to make it 2 from 2. DZIOPA: At fault for the second goal, but did intercept a lot of the ball elsewhere and played well. PAJAK: Inadvertently at fault also for the second goal, but solid as the game wore on and as usual cleared his lines. A CHATER: Excellent performance from the skipper at unfamiliar left back, also scored a good goal. TABAKA: Scored second goal, and held the ball up well. Was always dangerous and had Fosse at full stretch sometimes. GAGLEWSKI: Very busy game and played very well tearing down the Fosse right hand side. Impressive. WIESNIEWSKI: Good game down Polska's right wing, full of energy and got plenty of crosses in. WIECZOREK: Covered a lot of ground and an energetic performance before making way for Kragulec. WASIK: Solid second half but unfortunately gave away penalty for the third Fosse goal. KRAGULEC: 13 minutes for the second sub, not enough time to get a handle on the game. |
