So Leicester Polska finally recorded their first ever win over Webbys Wanderers at the 5th attempt. Once again starting strongly with the same determination they showed last week against Reem Team (although perhaps without the intensity due to the heat), they dominated the first half, although as usual the strong Webbys defence was seen to good effect. The good start was rewarded when Radek Gaglewski continued his superb form to set up a goal for Karol Osipinski to put in after 16 minutes. Gaglewski gave the Webbys right back a torrid time. Disaster struck though just 2 minutes later when Lukasz Ksobiak had to come off after jarring his knee on a pitch less than spectacular. This gave Lukasz Tabaka his first appearance in a Polska shirt since July 1. But worse was to follow, as Tabaka lasted just 7 minutes before he himself had to come off, turning on his ankle, with David Krzystof coming on to 'sub the sub'. Webby's best move of the game saw them draw a phenomenal save out of Andzrej in goal, but other than that he was largely untroubled save for having to collect a few corners in the second half. Gaglewski steadied the Polska ship though by putting them 2-0 up on 39 minutes. Riding a tricky challenge on the edge of the Webbys box, he managed to pivot and unleash a shot into the bottom left corner that the Webbys keeper could not reach. Webbys tried to force the pace in the second half, but they lack the penetration and firepower of old, and Polska saw out the game without too much fuss. Excluding wiped results, this is now Polska's best start to the season since 2004. It was also their first clean sheet since January, but they will be very pleased with a great start to the season. Player Performances: PODBURACZYNSKI: Top class save in the first half, didn't put a foot (or hand) wrong and excellent game. PAJAK: Solid in defence and won everything that came near him. MARK CHATER: Superb seasonal debut from Chater, and held the Polska defence up well. OSIPINSKI: Great game, broke up the play in the middle of the park throughout, and good to see him on hand to score. WASIK: Drifted inside somewhat first half, but still got his challenges in and was very strong and determined. PRZERWA: Quieter game than last week, but still part of a solid Polska back four that didn't concede. ALAN CHATER: Reliable and strong in midfield, gave the ball away a few times but worked hard for the team. GAGLEWSKI: Man of the match. Superb first half, set up Polska's first goal and scored the second. GAWLIK: Put himself in the thick of the action before being replaced on 78 minutes by Crane. WIECZOREK: Worked hard but not much of the ball due to the mean Webbys defence. KSOBIAK: Got injured on 14 minutes, came off 4 minutes later. TABAKA: First game back this season, but only lasted 7 minutes before injury. KRZYSTOF: Polska debut for the sub who worked hard upfront and then in the middle of the pitch. CRANE: Came on as emergency centre forward for final 12 minutes. |
