LEICESTER POLSKA recorded their first win of the season - and their first since April - after seeing off the County Cup challenge of Thurlaston Magpies and winning 4-1. In the first meeting between the two sides since November 2001, Polska started very brightly, and man of the match Maciek Wisniewski opened the scoring after just 7 minutes, latching on to a Savo Wieczorek pass from a Przemyslaw Przerwa throw in. Thurlaston equalised just 5 minutes later from a long range free kick after Karol Osipinski was arguably harshly adjudged to have given away a free kick. This gave the Magpies plenty of confidence for the next 10 minutes, but Polska were soon back on top, and their pressure paid off when Przerwa made it 2-1 right on the stroke of half time, from a Wisniewski cross. Wisniewski carried on his excellent work by making it 3-1 in the first minute of the second half from a pass from Savo. Przerwa then made it 4-1 on 60 minutes from a Radek pass as Polska made short work of their opponents. It was a fitting result for Polska'a 200th game at Knighton Park. PLAYER RATINGS: PAJAK: Largely untroubled, made some good saves late on in the second half. KWIATKOWSKI: Superb game and marshaled a new look back three superbly. KOSIOREK: Replaced at half time due to match fitness but worked hard first 45. KROL: Stepped up on last weeks' debut and a very good game. GAGLEWSKI: Set up Polska's final goal and a good dummy to fool two defenders during a first half move. OSIPINSKI: Getting back to full fitness and worked hard during a good 90 minutes. ALLEN: Continued to thrive in the centre of the park and had a good game. SZCZYPZK: Good game, tired a little in the second half on a hot day, replaced on 80 minutes. PRZERWA: A constant thorn in the Thurlaston side, scored two and a great game, might have scored two more! WISNIEWSKI: Excellent man of the match game. Scored two, created one, tracked back and defended in his own half. Class act WIECZOREK: Got involved first half, before picking up another injury and coming off on 56 minutes. SUBS: WASIK: Solid in second half, introduced at half time. KROGULEC: Worked well and looked sharp when coming on for Sav upfront. CRANE: Midfield role saw the veteran roll back the years with a series of pinpoint passes. |
