Match Report | LEICESTER POLSKA got 2014 off to a winning start, but needed penalties to see off Division 7 leaders Vale. And man of the match Andzrej Podburacynski was the hero, saving 2 penalties in extra time and scoring the decisive 7th after the scores had ended 3-3 at extra time. Polska were somewhat subdued in the first 20 minutes, as Vale's aggression and pressing game unsettled the visitors, but Przemyslaw Pzerwa made it 1-0 on 31 minutes from a Savo Wieczorek pass against the run of play. Vale then equalised 10 minutes later after a Polska defensive mix up, only for Wieczorek to make it 2-1 with an excellent bullet header from a Marek Dziopa corner on 44 minutes. Karol Osipinski then made it 3-1 on 47 minutes from an Andzrej Kosiorek throw as Polska threatened to run away with the game only for another defensive slip up to make it 3-2 on 63 minutes. This then gave Vale hope despite Pzerwa failing to convert an easy chance spilled by the hosts' keeper. Vale then pushed the game into extra time, scoring on 75 minutes. Polska were the stronger side in extra time, despite a gaping missed chance from Wieczorek, but came through the penalties well with only Patryk missing, as Andzrej was hailed the hero. | |
