Season 2006-07
Match Report | SAVVO WIECZOREK was the star of the show for Polska as they powered to a 3-1 win against Red Star Bell Inn. His second half hat trick secured Polska's fourth consecutive win - their best run since January 2005, with his first goal his 50th career strike for the reds. His last hat trick came 10 months ago against Groby Stamford, and the striker fell to his knees in delight when the third went in, and has now scored 52 goals in 114 games. With Red Star the better side for the first 25 minutes, Polska's first meaningful chance came on 26 minutes when Mark Inglis turned and shot wide past the post. Inglis then hit the post on 37 minutes after connecting from a Rui Da Costa cross. Chris Rudkin then saw the Red Star keeper tip his powerful shot over the bar on 45 minutes. Polska broke the deadlock on 49 minutes, Savvo slotting home after Mark Inglis caught Red Star on the break, picking the ball up on the half way line, and sprinting clear to set up the first. Inglis then saw a good shot fly over the bar on 55 minutes. But there was no stopping Savvo - after the Red Star defence got caught in possession on 65 minutes, Inglis pounced and shot only for Savvo to put the ball away after a fumble from the Red Star keeper. Wieczorek then completed his hat trick on 79 minutes, heading in a Chris Rudkin cross from a Rich Ellis throw in. Red Star scored a consolation on 85 minutes, connecting with a long lob which just dipped over keeper Jason Hughes. With Polska's opening day defeat at Countesthorpe being declared void, the last seven days have provided a real boost for the club, and Polska will look to continue their good run with a tough home clash against Glen Parva next week. | |
