For the second week running, the Nomads were involved in a top three clash. Both Saffron and Anstey had 100 per cent records, and it was only the goal difference that separated them, so would it be a case of something had to give. Despite having injuries to several key players, the first half was even, and it was the Nomads who took the lead on the 38th minute, Matt Boyles put Joe Moran through and he slotted the ball home. Saffron forced Nomads back in the final minutes of the half but Nomads stood firm. Nomads looked brighter at the start of the second half, Eddie Appleton had a header cleared off the line and Joe Moran had a shot blocked. But on 60 minutes Saffron levelled the score when a ball played forward was put away by Danny Gallagher. The match turned when Craig Hands disputed an off-side decision with the Assistant Referee, he called the Referee over and Craig Hands was sent off for his second bookable offence. A chance fell to Lee Connolly following a Joe Moran run, and when Matt Boyles put the ball in the net, it was disallowed for a foul on the keeper. With 5 minutes to go Saffron went in front. After beating the off-side trap, Danny Geary placed the ball into the net, and the result looked inevitable. But the Nomads proved it was not over until the fat lady sings, and pushed for the equaliser. With seconds to go, a corner was won, Jake Duffy took the kick and Joe Moran finished. Both teams are still unbeaten. Report by Rob Morrell |
