Match Report | The Second Round of the Senior Cup always brings surprises and before the match Uppingham Town was an unknown quantity with them playing out of the County in the Peterborough League. So when Richard Lewin gave them a 1-0 lead as early as the 10th minute alarm bells began to ring. However, the Nomads went in at half-time having a comfortable 4-1 lead, and for the third week on the spin a player had scored a hat-trick. This time it was not leading scorer Joe Moran, who had to settle for just a single strike on the stroke of half time, but the Nomads captain, Scott James. To make the hat-trick more impressive, not a single header, each one came from his left peg. Scott’s first goal brought the Nomads level on 15 minutes, his second on 40 minutes took the Nomads into the lead and the third gave them breathing space as half-time approached. With the second half only 14 minutes old, Stu Dealey replaced Nicki Finney with Luke Padmore and just one minute later Jake Duffy put his name on the score sheet with a sweet strike. Sam McMahon was then given a deserved rest, Ross Perkins dropping into the engine room for the final 30 minutes. Ashley Morris completed the scoring on 80 minutes. The draw for Round 3 will be made next week and played on Saturday 13th December. Ian Grogan | |
