Season 2006-07
Match Report | LEICESTER POLSKA showed their character by coming from behind for the first time this season to book their place in the third round of the County Cup. Despite their dominance, they just couldn't find the net, and after going down to a 39th minute Fosse penalty, it took them until Savvo Wiezcorek's goal in the 85th minute to secure extra time, and Mark Inglis then scored the winner on 100 minutes. Polska started brightly enough, Wieczorek producing a save from the Fosse keeper on 5 minutes, and then he produced another save on 17 minutes when Savvo found himself through from a throw in. Wieczorek then missed a good chance a minute later when put through by Chris Rudkin. Polska keeper Jason Hughes was then booked on 38 minutes for upending a Fosse player, the penalty for which was duly converted to give the visitors a shock 1-0 lead. Wieczorek then shot wide on 43 minutes after being put through on the keeper. In the second half, Polska turned up the pressure in search of an equaliser, and dominated possession, but it looked as though Fosse were going to hold on. Vernon Harper beat three men on 54 minutes, but Wieczorek failed to connect to his sliding pass. Mark Inglis then turned and shot wide from a tight angle on 60 minutes after being put through from a Rich Ellis throw in. A minute later, Tom Lane shot over the bar. As Polska refused to give in, Rich Ellis saw his 78th minute shot fumbled by the Fosse keeper, and seconds later Chris Rudkin saw his shot held by the keeper after being put through by Harper. Tom Lane then saw an 82nd minute shot again fumbled by the keeper, and it looked like it wasn't going to be Polska's day. But then on 85 minutes, Wieczorek latched onto an Inglis pass and put his hardest chance of the day away to spark jubilation in the Polska camp. And then Inglis put the game beyond Fosse when connecting with a Rich Ellis pass on 100 minutes. Vernon Harper looked to have sealed the win when going on a storming run on 111 minutes, but the Fosse keeper positioned himself well to make the save. Polska withstood some late pressure to secure their sixth win in a row and move into the thrid round. | |
