Season 2006-07
Match Report | LEICESTER POLSKA came from 2-0 down after just 7 minutes to thrash a demotivated Countesthorpe side 8-5 and claim last day bragging rights. It was Polska who started the slower, showing more interest in their comedy pants than playing, and Athletic were soon 2-0 up courtesy of a Luke Dyke own goal after 6 minutes and a slick finish a minute later. But Polska fought back, and Dyke atoned for his earlier errors when converting a 23rd minute penalty won by Ross Grocock, his first strike of the season. Grocock then scored a phenomenal second on 32 minutes after great work from Adam Dyke. Grocock then put Polska 3-2 up on 49 minutes, lobbing the keeper after Chris Rudkin had initially charged him down. Tom Lane then got in on the act with a wonderful strike on the hour mark from 25 yards out. Rudkin then put Polska 5-2 up by getting on the end of an Adam Dyke pass, before Dyke himself made it 6-2 after converting a through ball from Grocock. Rudkin then made it 7-2 with one of the goals of the season - lobbing the Athletic keeper from the halfway line. Athletic, who were playing many players deliberately in wrong positions, then made it 7-3, before super sub Andy Ilnicki scored from close range to make it 8-3. Athletic then pulled 2 back on 88 and 90 minutes, in a good natured game that rounded of Polska's season well. | |
