Season 2007-08
Match Report | LEICESTER POLSKA find themselves top of the Alliance League Premiership with 5 games to go after turning on the style in the second half against Leicester Academicals. Polska started much the slower of the two sides, and when skipper Tom Lane unavoidably put through his own net on 36 minutes, it was the least Accies deserved. But Darren Wheeler again proved his prowess by equalising just a minute later, and would go on to complete another hat trick - his second in as many games and his 10th goal of 2008. He has also scored 12 in his last 6 games. Adam Dyke was brought on for the start of the second half, and won his team a penalty which skipper Tom Lane converted on 52 minutes for his first goal of the season - his last one coming in April 2007 against Countesthorpe - some 1633 minutes of football earlier. Wheeler found the net again just 3 minutes later to kill off a shellshocked Accies, before Mark Inglis opened his account for the day on 60 minutes. Rich Ellis then made it 5-1 with a spectacular long range effort on 64 minutes from around 40 yards out. This boy doesn't do simple tap ins! Lane then put through a peach of a ball to Wheeler 3 minutes later who squared to Inglis - who made no mistake - to make it 6-1, before Wheeler grabbed another 4 minutes from time.
