Season 2008-09

LEICESTER POLSKA recorded their thrid straight win as they continued their unbeaten league record against Leicester Academicals. Polska started much the brighter, but just couldn't seem to convert their chances, which saw Accies' confidence grow as a result. Kyle Thomas hit a post, but it seemed the deadlock would remain at half time until Chris Eames scored his third goal in as many games with a sweet strike on the edge of the area on 43 minutes. Accies came out fired up for the second half, and unfortunately for Eames he was then in the wrong place at the wrong time as he converted an Accies corner into his own net on 64 minutes. Polska then stepped up the pressure, but were left cursing their luck as skipper Tom Lane saw his 76th minute penalty palmed away by the Accies keeper - perhaps rough justice as it looked a very fortuitious penalty at the time. A tactical switch late on in the game paid dividends however. With just minutes remaining, Kyle Thomas was switched upfront with Chris Eames reverting to right midfield, and Dave Ilnicki was pushed forward as a third striker leaving Polska 3-4-3 as they searched for the winner. And Ilnicki found his luck was in just a minute later as he tucked the ball past the Accies keeper to give Polska a late, late win. Chris Lewis came on with 2 minutes to go to steady the ship, and in the end Polska recorded a game win created in messy circumstances.
