Season 2006-07
Match Report | LEICESTER POLSKA'S early season frustration continued as they went down 2-1 to Glen Parva, to leave them still searching for their first win of the season. In a definite game of two halves, Polska produced a strong first half performance, despite the absence of regulars Mark Inglis and Chris Eames. Chris Rudkin made the first telling contribution, flashing a shot across goal after just seven minutes. Parva then replied, Iggy Messias getting in behind the Polska defence a minute later, only to shoot over the bar. Polska then increased their dominance, with Vernon Harper producing a stunning save from the Parva keeper on thirteen minutes. And the pressure finally told, when Rui Da Costa pressurised the Parva keeper, winning the ball off him, to leave Savvo Wieczorek an easy chance to put Polska 1-0 up on 25 minutes. Rich Ellis then wizzed a shot past the post on 39 minutes. Parva had a good penalty appeal turned down on 42 minutes when Luke Dyke appeared to handle the ball, before Chris Rudkin's strong shot from a Polska corner was somehow cleared off the line on 45 minutes. Parva upped the tempo in the second half, and Rob Wynne finally escaped the attention of Rob Crane on 65 minutes to set up Parva's equaliser. Worse was to follow for the visitors 4 minutes later, when Stu Matthews failed to deal with a routine clearance, leaving Iggy Messias free to drill home Glen Parva's second. Polska seemed to tire in the final quarter of the match, and failed to trouble Parva, who held on comfortably for the win. | |
