LEICESTER POLSKA's great start to the season came to a shuddering halt as they were well beaten by a young Wigston side. Polska undoubtedly thought they were possibly in for an easy win - not only did they go into the game with a 100% record, but Wigston had yet to win a game in three attempts. As the game wore on, Wigston worked hard and basically stopped Polska playing by chasing every ball and denying the hosts time and space. Ctaig Alexander opened the scoring on 32 minutes, and then went on to score again on 36 minutes. His first goal came from a Polska corner! David O'Rourke then beat the offside trap on 43 minutes to make it 3-0. By this time Lane and Kragulec had switched positions, with John Garden switching with Alan Chater. The formation then changed completely to 3-5-2 in the second half. Although Polska seemed to regain some composure and start passing the ball around in the second half, they still looked vulnerable at the back. And when one forward move saw them hit the bar twice, it was clear that they were not going to be getting anything from this game. Alexander completed his hat trick on 84 minutes, and Polska were failing to score for the first time in 28 games. It was a terrible performance from the side, and hopefully this game will give them a jolt and remind them that there will be no easy games in this division. PLAYER PERFORMANCES: PAJAK: Couldn't really be blamed for any of the goals, but was kept busy all game. MARK CHATER: Switched to left wing back in the second half as Polska looked to salvage something, then back at centre half late on. Had a far too busy morning. WYSOCZANSKI: Made way for Bouric on 51 minutes, worked hard in first half. CRANE: Made way for Lenoir on 78 minutes, given a busy time by the Wigston forwards, bought down Josh Verity late on for a dangerous free kick. ALAN CHATER: Looked settled in the second half when he went centre mid, but by then the game was gone. GARDEN: Failed to make much impact centre mid first half, but did much better second half back in defence. Never stopped working. OSIPINSKI: Was clearly missing Godziebiewski and Dziopa along side him in the middle, busy second half but again it was too late. KRAGULEC: Did better when switched further forward in place of Tom Lane, passed the ball around second half but this was a much harder test than last week. LANE: Looked more comfortable at the back than left midfield, but kept busy by the Wigston players. WIECZOREK: Starved of service for most of the game, not an easy game for the Polska forwards. GAGLIEWSKI: Another forward not used enough, for some reason Polska reverted to long balls in the first half instead of getting Radek on the ball more. SUBS: BOURIC: Played the last 39 minutes, and did well. Fair debut from the Frenchman. LENOIR: Not enough time for the Frenchman to make an impact, probably history was made by Polska using 2 French subs. |
