LEICESTER POLSKA got back to winning ways by beating Fleckney Athletic 4-2 away. Polska started brightly, yet the defence was caught cold after just four minutes when Sam Grantham ran through and slotted past Spider Pajak. But after 10 minutes, Polska began to settle, and enjoyed a tremendous passage of good, slick passing before Marcin Kragulec scored his first ever Polska goal on 20 minutes, burying a Tom Lane flick on. Polska then tended to sit back again, but carved out some good chances, the impressive Alan Chater drawing out a superb stop from the Fleckney keeper. The teams went in level at half time. Four minutes into the second half, Fleckney had a throw in which seemed innocuous enough, but when Sam Kilsby scored unchallenged it left Polska behind for the second time in the game. But they gradually got their passing going again, and Tom Lane - playing upfront in place of Radek Gagliewski - rolled back the years to make it 2-2. It was Lane's first goal since April 2010, and the skipper's first goal from open play since November 2008. It was also his 125th Polska goal. Alan Chater then put Polska ahead for the first time on 77 minutes, before Marek Dziopa made the points safe on 80 minutes. It puts Polska back up to 5th in the table, following the wiped result of the 5-1 win over St Patricks saw them lose 3 points earlier in the week. PLAYER PERFORMANCES: PAJAK: Took some punishment during the game, but solid for most things. Not at fault for either goal. MARK CHATER: Solid in the air, and had to be on his toes for the entire game as Fleckney tried to find a way through. WYSOCZANSKI: Made way for Lenoir on 61 minutes, given a hard time in the first half, but was under the weather before the game. CRANE: Had to withstand some fierce Fleckney pressure throughout, won all his aerial battles. ALAN CHATER: Played a big part in many Polska passing moves, and could have had a hat trick on another day. CHOINA: Played through the pain barrier after injuring his ankle in the first half, but didn't put a foot wrong and was man of the match. OSIPINSKI: Drew plenty of fouls from the Fleckney players, but was a key player in Polska's build ups. KRAGULEC: Had an excellent game and took his first ever goal well. Strong and quick throughout, kept Fleckney very busy. LANE: Held the ball up well playing in an unfamiliar front role, good to see him scoring again. WIECZOREK: Didn't really get many chances, but linked up well with the players around him. Came off on 80 minutes. DZIOPA: Did plenty of good work, and kept the ball well on many occasions. Good fourth goal to kill off the game. SUBS: LENOIR: Came on for Wysoczanski in a tricky right back role, and did very well there. BOURIC: Only played the last 10 minutes, leaving Lane upfront on his own. No time to make an impact. |
