LEICESTER POLSKA got 2012 off to a great start with an 8-1 win over bottom club Trinderbox. In a match that was packed full of stats, Lukasz Tabaka got the hosts off to a perfect start, pouncing in the box after just 2 minutes and 35 seconds to make it 1-0. Is this the quickest Alliance goal of 2012? Yet Chris Wickes then equalised from a Trinderbox corner on 11 minutes, after good work from the visitors. Trinderbox looked sharp in the first 25 minutes, and their togetherness showed - they were first to the ball and looked determined to make things difficult. But Tabaka pounced again on 29 minutes with a headed goal to make it 2-1. He was the difference between the 2 sides in the first half - Polska were in front without really dazzling. Marek Dziopa then struck a sweet third goal for Polska from 25 yards out to make it 3-1 on 37 minutes, before Tabaka completed his 40 minute hat trick as Polska went in 4-1 up at the break. Savo Wieczorek then made it 5-1 on 50 minutes to put the game beyond doubt, before Maciek Wisniewski added Polska's 6th on 54 minutes. Savo then converted a virtual goal line chance from an Alan Chater cross on 65 minutes. Tom Lane then came on on 81 minutes and coolly slotted home past the keeper from another Alan Chater pass on 90 minutes to give Polska a great win. Once the goals started to come, the Trinderbox heads went down somewhat which allowed Polska time and space, but they did work Polska hard and deserve some credit for trying to keep going in what is a difficult season for them. PLAYER STATS: ANDZREJ: Didn't have a huge amount to do in goal, no chance for the Trinderbox goal. MARK CHATER: Made some good headed clearances throughout, held his hand up for losing his man for the Trinderbox goal! MACIEK WYSOCZANSKI: His usual reliable self although a few heavy first touches, replaced on 55 minutes. PAJAK: Won some crucial balls in the air, very solid today and played well. KRAGULEC: Put in his usual work rate, played his part in defence. ALAN CHATER: The skipper set up 2 goals and passed the ball around well today. DZIOPA: Looked very comfortable with Zydkiewiecz alongside him, a great game and scored a good goal. Subbed 81 mins. ZYDKIEWIECZ: Very tidy game for the prodigal son, dropped deep a lot to defend the back four and did his job well. WISNIEWSKI: Looked lively wide right, good to see him on the score sheet. WIECZOREK: Scored 2 but should have gone on to his hat trick rather than passing to Osipinski when through! TABAKA: Great awareness from the forward who was deadly today. The best striker on the pitch, took off when booked. WASIK: Did a steady and reliable job when sent on. OSIPINSKI: Came on on 72 minutes and put himself about well. LANE: 9 minute cameo from the Polska skipper, took his goal well at the end. STATS: This was Polska's first home win of the season, stretching back 6 games to April 2011. It was Polska's biggest league win since October 2001. Polska have scored 8 goals at home in a game 4 times now. The other games were against Leicester Accies (8-2 in March 2009), Countesthorpe OB (8-5 in April 2007), and BT (8-1 in December 1998). Their highest goals tally is when beating Spinney Rovers 9-3 (October 2000). Lukasz Tabaka's hat trick was the first Polska hat trick since Mark Inglis scored 3 against FC Tumar (Dec 2010). His 40 minute hat trick was almost the quickest Polska hat trick since Mark Inglis scored 3 in 38 minutes against Oadby United in December 2007. Tom Lane is now just 1 appearance behind the all time record holder Rys Procinski. It was Lane's 150th Knighton Park appearance. edited by Mark (08/01/2012) |
