WIGSTON UNITED did the double over Polska and they are without doubt Polska's bogey team. Polska started the game strongly, for most of the first 10 minutes they were camped in the Wigston half, with Karol Osipinski shooting just wide on only 2 minutes. Spider Pajak in the Polska goal was a virtual spectator for the first 20 minutes. As the half wore on, Wigston gradually came back into it, but Polska took the lead 3 minutes into first half injury time when Spriggs turned the ball into his own net from a Polska corner. There was plenty of good play in the first 45, and Polska looked pretty comfortable. But when Ross Adams equalised on 57 minutes with a spectacular volley, Wigston seemed to grow in confidence. By contrast, Polska seemed to tire and stopped pressing forward. With 2 new players, and 2 drafted in, maybe the inexperience and tiredness began to tell. Wigston then took the lead on 70 minutes despite appeals for offside, and on 77 minutes went further ahead after Polska failed to deal properly with a corner. Wigston wrapped it up on 82 minutes and were then denied a stonewall penalty, but all in all it was a hugely disappointing day for Polska after a good, solid first half. PLAYER PERFORMANCES: PAJAK: Safe hands first half, no real chances with any of the goals. WISNIEWSKI: Made some good wide runs first half, never stopped working but not as effective second half. LISINSKI: Debutant right back was switched to the left. Made a few nervy errors but did get stuck in when needed and did ok DZIOPA: Excellent first half, but again like most of his team mates, faded second half OSIPINSKI: Troubled the Wigston defence first half, played in a back three second half as Polska chased the game. A CHATER: Good first half in an unfamiliar central midfield role, pinned back second half GARDEN: Lots of classy touches from the Polska veteran, kept composure well even when Wigston dominated LEWIS: Good first half, tired visibly before being replaced on 72 minutes GAGLEWSKI: Played well out wide left first half, didn't see much of the ball in the second WIECZOREK: Worked hard first half, but marked out of the game second half M CHATER: Some good headers and defensive work alongside a couple of rare mistakes in the second half SUBS: SULECKI: 18 minute debut for the new Polska midfielder told us very little JEDRASZCZYK: 12 minutes and hurled upfront but didn't get the ball much STATS: Polska have now lost to Wigston United first team on 5 successive occasions The last time they beat them was March 2007, where they also did the double over them that season |
