Season 2013-14
Match Report | IN what may be possibly their last ever Sunday/Alliance League match, Leicester Polska signed off in style for the season by beating champions elect and league leaders Willowbrook 2-1. It was the first time we have beaten our illustrious opponents since the infamous Presidents Cup semi final win in 2002, and the last time we met at Knighton Park, Willowbrook beat us 2-1 in January 2002. Our results against them now read: 2-1, 1-2, 1-1 (won on penalties), 1-2 and 2-1. Matt Towers opened the scoring on 22 minutes against the run of play after a quickly taken free kick caught out the Polska players, but then Maciek Krogulec sneaked in between the WB centre halves to make it 1-1 on the stroke of half time, being put through by a Sav pass. In the second half, Walsh got sent off for the visitors on 57 after minutes after a second yellow, and Polska were then denied a stonewall penalty some 10 minutes later. Savo Wieczorek took advantage of a goalkeeper mix up on 81 minutes to put Polska 2-1 ahead, and although WB then hit the bar in the final minute, Polska hung on for a famous win. | |
