SAVO WIECZOREK ended his goal drought to give Leicester Polska another 3 points at the expense of the hard working Northfield Emerald. Scoring for the first time this season, Wieczorek had gone without a goal in his previous 8 appearances, stretching back to 18 April against Belgrave. But when he opened the scoring here on 11 minutes, it marked his first goal in 552 minutes. The goal was created from a long ball from returning skipper and centre half Dominik Krol, and traveled most of the pitch before dropping into Savo's path for his to virtually roll it past the keeper. Polska enjoyed a dominant start to the game, but will need to understand quickly that sometimes hard, ugly work is needed to win games, not just skill and dazzling play. Twice Mantas Tevelis should have squared to team mates after weaving his way into the box, and other players were also guilty of over playing. They then paid the price, Marek Dziopa's misplaced pass to Wysoczanski allowed Nathaniel McIntosh to nip in on 28 minutes, and somehow Polska had squandered their lead. Fortunately, Mihal Lutowicz restored the advantage on 32 minutes, after a world class ball from Patryk Mazurek. He also slotted down past the keeper to make it 2-1. In the second half, Polska caught Emerald cold: Osipinki tried a shot on 47 minutes that the keeper could only parry into the path of Sav, who scored again from just a few yards out. It gave Polska a 3-1 lead but probably led to them relaxing again too much. And when McIntosh raced down the Polska right on 89 minutes and scored to make it 3-2, it led to a nervous final minute that Polska should never have allowed to happen. 11' Polska 1 NE 0 (Wieczorek) 28' Polska 1 NE 1 (McIntosh) 32' Polska 2 NE 1 (Lutowicz) 47' Polska 3 NE 1 (Wieczorek) 57' Polska sub: Krogulec for Wysoczanski 65' Polska sub: Szczypczyk for Osipinski 89' Polska 3 NE 2 (McIntosh) Sav's 2 goals now leave him just 9 behind all time scorer Tom Lane Patryk S was making his 50th Polska appearance |
