Season 2008-09

The Nomads scored the one and only goal of the game on 20 minutes when Adam Bishop collected the ball on the half-way line, turned his marker, and produced a pin point pass into the path of Lee Connolly who placed the ball into the net with aplomb.

In a closely contested contest, Birstall were only allowed shots from outside the box, and despite the Nomads pressure, they too found chances hard to come by. But, with half-time approaching the Nomads could have increased their lead. Will Keightley took on the full back and his cross from the goal line found Luke Padmore in the box but his header skimmed over the bar.

In the second half, Lee Connolly headed on a cross to Luke Padmore but after putting the ball in the net, the Referee disallowed the goal for pushing.

Apart from having to make a goal line clearance, Birstall took charge for the final quarter of the match. Several chances fell their way, but good defending and good handling from Sean Bowles protected the slender Nomads lead.
