The opening match of the Nomads, Jelson Homes Senior Cup campaign, was a well matched affair, and with both teams passing the ball around the pitch to good effect, it was a pleasing match for the supporters to watch. When Joe Moran worked for himself an early chance, the Oadby keeper held onto the ball, and thoughts of last weeks match of missed chances started to cross the Nomads mind. But the pressure was relieved on 15 minutes when the Captain, Scott James, showed the way by heading home a Jake Duffy corner. Five minutes later it should have been 2-0, but when Joe Moran placed the ball past the keeper, the post came to Oadby’s rescue, and Lee Connolly hit the rebound against a defender. However, after a series of passes, Joe Moran burst into the box on the right, his pass found Matt Boyles at the back post and he slotted the ball home. Oadby then had a chance to pull one back, but as Carl Muggleton rushed out, their player shot wide. But, one minute later they did, when Carl Muggleton make an uncharacteristic mistake, a mistimed jump resulted in Jimenez only having to roll the ball into the net. As half time approached, he made amends with a great save, keeping in tact the Nomads 2-1 lead. The opening minutes of the second half saw both defences in charge, but on 58 minutes Matt Boyles scored his second of the match, giving the Nomads some breathing space. Nick Finney’s cross from the right found him at the far post and despite the acute angle hammered the ball through a crowded goal mouth and into the net. Two minutes later Joe Moran carved through the Oadby defence, but once again his shot hit the post. Oadby fought back but all their pressure came to nothing and Lee Connolly finally sealed the game. After a strong run he worked onto his left foot and placed the ball past the keeper. In the Second Round on the 8th November the Nomads have a home tie against Uppingham Town.
