LEICESTER ACADEMICALS finally overcame their Leicester Polska hoodoo by winning a nailbiting County Cup game. Polska looked to continue their unbeaten run against the hosts when Mark Inglis scored in the 10th minute - Inglis has now scored in all 6 games against Accies. Yet Barry Murphy equalised 10 minutes later when heading home unmarked from a corner. Chris Rudkin was then lucky to stay on the pitch when handling an Accies ball away from goal. Alex Gordon Weeks scored the resulting penalty, and then put Accies 3-1 up on 41 minutes. Accies then looked to have eased through to the next round when Joe Lavender put Accies 4-1 up on 49 minutes. However, Polska then staged a tremendous fightback - Darren Wheeler scored from a corner on 61 minutes, and then found the net again two minutes later to set the Accies nerves jangling. Polska thought they had then forced the tie into extra time when Andy Ilnicki got the final touch on a goalmouth scramble from a Tom Lane free kick, before Lavender managed a sensational long range winner with just a minute remaining.
