Match Report | LEICESTER POLSKA won their first penalty shoot out since the infamous Presidents Cup semi final win in March 2002. There was also a notable first for Mo Baldeh as he scored a Knighton Park hat trick on his debut, following in the footsteps of Mark Yeomanson, Sean O'Callaghan and Curtis Johnson. Polska went on the attack with 3 strikers from the off, but slipped behind on 9 minutes, before stand in skipper Mark Inglis levelled on 16 minutes. Baldeh then scored his first on 21 minutes, and Polska were rampant when Wiezcorek made it 3-1 on 42 minutes. At this stage, the early problems in midfield were overcome and the 3 forwards combined well to cause St Pats all kinds of problems. But Polska switched off and allowed St Pats to get back to 3-2 just seconds before half time. This seemed to galvanise the visitors, and they took control of the second half, making it 3-3 on 53 minutes, only for Baldeh to potentially kill the game off on 70 minutes by making it 4-3. But Pats came back on 77 minutes to make it 4-4, and draw specialists Polska then booked extra time, yet again failing to kill a team off inside 90 minutes. Baldeh then seemed to settle the tie on 95 minutes after an exquisite pass from Inglis saw him lob the keeper to make it 5-4, before Pats caught Polska napping yet again to make it 5-5 on 98 minutes. In the penalty shoot out, misses from Synowiecz and Janowski handed the initiative back to the visitors after a good start, only for St Pats to miss their final spot kick, going down 5-4. | |
