Season 2010-11
Match Report | A costly missed penalty from FC Tumar's Dan Bailey in the 55th minute was the turning point of this highly watchable game, surprisingly played after a wise refereeing decision from arbiter Pete Johnson, who even brushed the touchlines himself to ensure the game went ahead! Polska recorded their biggest league win since March 2009, thanks in no small part to Mark Inglis and Alan Chater who scored over 70% of the goals between them. Although Tumar enjoyed better possession in the first 15 minutes, Chater opened the scoring on 23 minutes after a great run down the left hand side. He looked like he might have given himself too narrow an angle to score past stand in keeper Andy Lewis, but slotted home neatly. Dan Bailey then equalised on 30 minutes from a corner, after Polska failed to clear the ball, with skipper Tom Lane desperately trying to claw it off the line but to no avail. Mark Inglis then made it 2-1 on 34 minutes as he pounced on a misjudged header past the flailing Lewis. Savo Wieczorek then gave Polska some breathing space by putting them 3-1 up on 39 minutes. The second half was where the game really sprang into life. Tumar were awarded a penalty when Tomasz Tywonczuk gave away his third penalty of the season (if you want a free transfer, just say!) although he can consider himself unfortunate as he looked like he was clearly fouled in the build up. In the event, Bailey put the penalty wide. Polska then punished Tumar in the most merciless way possible - 3 goals in as many minutes straight from the miss to kill the game off. Chater got his second of the game on 56 minutes, before Mark Inglis completed his quick fire hat trick, adding to the tally on 57 and 58 minutes. It was Inglis' 9th Polska treble, and he now sits on 98 career goals from just 102 starts. Chater was also bitterly unlucky not to score his first ever Sunday morning hat trick. He found the net a further two times, only for both to be ruled out. The first from an indirect free kick before referee Johnson had blown his whistle, the second for an 'offisde' goal from a Mark Inglis pull back, although Johnson admitted after the game that this one should have stood! Tomasz Godziebiewski scored a debut goal, and Polska's seventh, in the final minute with a piledriver. It was only Polska's second league win of the season, the first coming back in September, but lifted them 3 places up the table, and they looked like they were starting to gel very well on the evidence of this win, and with some strong players back in the line up. | |
