LEICESTER POLSKA reached their first Holmes Park Cup Final since 2002 after seeing off a determined Oadby Owls Mens side in their neutral ground EW Foster Cup semi final at Huncote. Oadby were the stronger side for the first half hour, and although they looked competitive, they lacked a killer striker, and as a result Polska managed to keep them at bay at Spider Pajak had few clear cut chances to save. On 31 minutes, Marek Dziopa put a through ball through to Lukasz Tabaka, who unleashed a thunderous shot from the left hand side of the area to score what would prove to be the decisive goal of the game. This saw Polska enjoy their best spell of the game up until half time, but in the second half they didn't create too much, and must thank their solidly marshalled defence, which kept the Oadby threat to a minimum. Spider pulled off two superb saves which possibly meant the writing was on the wall, but Polska won a shade tidily, in the process also setting a club record of 32 consecutive games where they found the net. And what a time to keep your first clean sheet since November! PLAYER RATINGS: SPIDER: Pulled off two fantastic saves, but was otherwise largely untroubled. PRZERWA: Solid as part of the back five. ALAN CHATER: Played superbly in defence, breaking up a lot of Oadby play. Man of the match. MARK CHATER: A great performance from Mark at the back, especially in the air. WYSOCZANSKI: Yet another solid, reliable game from the strong left back. DZIOPA: Got stuck in well without ever having a chance to threaten. OSIPINSKI: Worked exceptionally hard and had a good game. GAGLEWSKI: Went forward at random, spent the end of the game as a centre forward. WISNIEWSKI: Looked rusty and had a quiet game, substituted on 67 minutes. WIECZOREK: Should have scored first half, substituted 82 minutes. TABAKA: Still carrying an injury, but scored a stunning goal. SUBS: KWIATKOWSKI: Came on on 67 minutes WASIK: Came on for Wieczorek on 82 minutes |
